Internet Explorer 8 - most common web browser, now much better

Why you should try Firefox, Opera, Chrome or Safari instead of IE8!

Internet Explorer is still the most commonly used web browser. With the release of Internet Explorer 8 it also comes with improved security, accelerators, web slices, dynamic inline search and the ability to access multiple web mail accounts independently and simultaneously. IE8 is much better than previous versions, but it is still facing stiff competition from a number of more flexible browsers, mainly Firefox, Opera, Safari and Chrome.

Internet Explorer has worthy competitors who are knocking on the door to set new standards in browser technology. There´s a lot of rumble about which browser is better than the other. The most popular browsers all have their qualities.

There is only one way to find out which of the most popular browsers is the best. Download, compare and discover which browser technology that best meets up to your expectations. Which of the combatants will make the most of your time on the Net?

Now you have found FirefoxOpera.com, a browser download platform where you can get the four main competitors to IE8 from one and the same place. Here you can download Firefox 3.5 in an instant. Below you’ll also find buttons for downloading Opera 10, Chrome 2 and Safari 4. Get them and evaluate.

RE: I like IE!
written by dex, September 07, 2008
The reason web developers design sites to be viewable in IE is that right now IE still holds the most users but this is quickly changing, everyday IE loses users to other browsers and rightfully so.

The main reason many speak of IE as insecure is that when a cracker/hacker makes a new virus they want to affect as many people as possible and since IE has the most users, you do the maths... Then of course there's the fact that Microsoft don't release updates as often as they should to counter the threats.

Of course this is just my thoughts and feelings, I could be wrong...

10 Reasons Why NOT to Use MSIE (Internet Explorer)
written by chirax, September 09, 2008
Am I a Internet Explorer hater; No, but close. Consider This: If you have ever worked on a design or a particular cool feature for your web application and all went well people loved it and even your boss loved it. All to find out the ##*@@ IE, dosen’t work the way you expect. Knowing myself well I wouldn’t even bother. However we live in a strange world where inspite of the best avilable browsers being free, we still use IE. I am a big fan of Firefox, yes Opera and Safari are also really great.

Now comes the tricky part I can respect anyone using anyone of the listed browser above but, Why still people use IE. It just escapes me. I request all of you to please download you fav browser and use it instead of the Stupid, Unresponsive, Technical Blunder, and Arrogant IE.

If you built a web application for IE, then went back and fixed it for Firefox and other browsers, you wouldn't have so much trouble. Please still use IE because it's pre-loaded onto the machine and most people don't care about how a website displays or how tricky the coding is with IE, as along as it displays. If you were smart, you would know that and start with building for the masses (which is more lucrative I might add) and then build for the minority later.

written by gcarter, October 20, 2009
I have built my website for Firefox displays but made it descent looking for IE. Time consuming yes, but I feel its worth the exposure to the general public that has IE.

So, which version of IE should I code for? Remember, there is IE 6, IE 7, IE 8, IE 6 quirks mode, IE 7 quirks-mode-for-6, IE 7 quirks-mode-for-7, IE 8 quirks-mode-for-6, IE 8 quirks-mode-for-7, and IE 8 quirks-mode-for-8. And that's ignoring any IE earlier than 6. Sure, there aren't a lot of differences between the various quirks modes, but there are enough that you have to code for them. With Opera, Firefox, Safari, etc., you can at least write your code to avoid quirks mode; that's not possible with IE 7+, since a user, a network admin, or Microsoft itself can label your site as "quirky," and you're stuck. Good bye, layout.

Then again, if I write for Firefox with Opera and Safari in mind... I only code once.

I don't hate IE; it's gotten a lot better, and 8 is actually a decent browser. I just hate to code for 10 different browsers, all called "IE."
